Who this guide is for
This packing list is for a Disney World theme park visit — any of the four parks. It covers what to bring for a day in the parks, what is worth leaving at home, and the items most first-timers forget.
Bag choice
A comfortable backpack or a crossbody bag works best. Aim for something light, secure, and hands-free. A bag that's too small means carrying essentials in your hands; too large and you'll be tired and slow through bag checks.
Bag essentials
- Lightweight backpack (20–25L is ideal) or crossbody bag
- Rain cover for your bag or a zip-lock bag for phone and valuables
Clothing
What to wear
- Comfortable, well-broken-in athletic shoes or sneakers — this is the most important item
- Moisture-wicking socks (change mid-day if possible in summer)
- Light, breathable clothing — Florida is hot and humid
- Light rain jacket or packable poncho (afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer)
- Hat or cap with a brim for sun protection
- Sunglasses
- Light cardigan or layer for air-conditioned restaurants and shops
Sun and heat protection
Sun and heat
- SPF 50 sunscreen — reapply every 2 hours
- Reef-safe sunscreen if visiting water parks
- Lip balm with SPF
- Small personal fan (battery or USB) for summer visits
- Cooling towel
Food and drinks
Snacks and hydration
- Reusable water bottle (refill stations and free ice water are available in the parks)
- Snacks from outside — granola bars, trail mix, fruit pouches for kids
- Small soft-sided cooler if you want to bring sandwiches
- Any dietary-specific snacks (Disney has allergy-friendly options but not for every preference)
Technology
Tech and navigation
- Fully charged phone — the My Disney Experience app is essential for Lightning Lane bookings and park maps
- Portable phone charger / power bank (a full park day drains batteries fast)
- Charging cable
- Earbuds for waiting in queues
Family and kids
For families with children
- Lightweight umbrella stroller for children under 5
- Change of clothes for young children (rides can splash)
- Wet bag or zip-lock for wet clothes
- Children's snacks and any comfort items
- Any medication your child takes
- Small first aid kit (plasters, blister pads, pain relief)
- Autograph book and pens if your kids want character signatures
What to leave at home
- Selfie sticks — prohibited on most rides
- Loose glitter or confetti — prohibited in the parks
- Hard-sided coolers
- Wagons — prohibited in most parks (foldable wagons are sometimes an exception — check current policy)
- Expensive jewellery — unnecessary and a loss risk
- Too many clothes — you will be walking, not attending events
